BRONZE SCULPTURE ARTIST DONNIE FIRKINS AT magpie etc.
OPENING RECEPTION SATURDAY, OCT. 11, 2008, 6-9 P.M.

magpie etc. will open an exhibition of bronze sculpture by Donnie Firkins Saturday, Oct. 11, with a public opening reception from 6-9 p.m. The show will feature approximately 10 sculptures by Firkins, forms inspired by the creative activity of nature: hollow shells with harmonious curves and fragments of stone with asymmetric forms.

Donnie Firkins began his study of sculpture in 1973, while attending Western Kentucky University. In 1989, Firkins completed a 2 and ½ ton abstract sculpture that was permanently installed at the Casa de la Catura in Quito, Ecuador. In 2004, he was commissioned by Warren County government to create a veteran’s memorial, which was installed in front of the Warren County courthouse in Bowling Green, Ky.

Firkins has exhibited his work in several shows in the U.S. and Canada. Most recently, Firkins participated with an artists’ collective in creating the Three Little Pigs installation in Cheekwood Art and Gardens’ Happily Ever After outdoor exhibition. The artist casts his work at his foundry near Bowling Green.
